Jason: “When I heard Valencia CF mentioned, all other avenues were immediately closed"
On Monday at the Ciudad Deportiva, Jason Remeseiro gave his first press conference since joining Valencia CF. Club president Anil Murthy described the signing of the former Levante UD man, who arrived on a free transfer, as "a very intelligent move in the market," and the player himself spoke about his will to help the team in any way possible.
How did the move to Valencia CF come about?
"My agents were the first people to speak with the club, and the negotiations got underway, but when I heard Valencia CF mentioned, all other avenues were immediately closed. Moving here is a big step and I'm very excited."
What has it been like in recent months, having signed for a club in the same city (as Levante)?
"It's a different situation, but at the same time it's been neither difficult nor easy. You have to know how to deal with it. There were four months in which I knew that almost everything was in place for me to come here, and I treated the matter with absolute normality. I was focused on achieving my objectives with Levante UD, even though I knew that I was going to leave. I had the intention of keeping them in LaLiga and leaving in the best way possible."
There are a lot of players for your position. How do you deal with that situation?
"I always say that competition is good; it stops you from relaxing. You have to give everything in every training session, knowing that any one of a number of players might replace you. I have come here with the utmost motivation possible to fight for my place, and to help the team."
Signing for Valencia CF must be a big move for your career.
"These opportunities are hard to come by. VCF are a Champions League side, and I don't intend to waste my chance. I aim to succeed here, and the more years I spend here, the better."
You have been talked about as a versatile player, but what would be your ideal position?
"Last year, with several changes in formation at Levante, I played in several positions. I was a full back, a right winger, a left winger and I played in the middle. I'm an attacking player, but last year as a sweeper I improved in many defensive facets. I feel like I can play in many positions and contribute in various areas of the pitch."
