Match Report: Nine-man Valencia CF lose out away to Getafe CF (1-0)
Valencia CF were back in action on Friday, December 8 at 9 pm kick-off time at the Coliseum against Getafe CF on Matchday 16 of LaLiga EA Sports.
The game saw a sloppy start with Valencia CF struggling to settle into the game in the ear while the home side were dominating possession and having half chances in the early goings at the Coliseum.
Valencia CF were penned back by the home side as they set out their defensive stalls over the midway point in the first half, but finding it hard to make inroads at the other end.
Christian Mosquera nodded the ball over the crossbar in the 37th minute of the game following a fine Pepelu delivery.
The remainder of the first stanza went off without further incidents with chances few and far between for either side the first half finished locked together at 0-0 with all to play for in the second half.
Valencia CF had a brighter start to the second half enjoying a few forays forward. Alas, shortly after Valencia CF were reduced to ten men five minutes into the second half for a Gabriel Paulista sending-off.
Valencia CF were forced into a defensive change. Fran Pérez made way for Mouctar Diakhaby. Giorgi Mamardashvili produced heroics with three stunning saves in quick succession to keep the scoreline at 0-0.
Valencia CF dug deep defensively for large parts of the second half following the red card without losing face.
Borja Mayoral broke the deadlock in the latter stages of the second half and moments later, Valencia CF were reduced to nine men in the 90th minute following a straight red card for Javi Guerra in a dramatic and frantic ending to the game which also saw the sending off of Domingos Duarte for Getafe CF.
The game finished in a 1-0 away loss to Getafe CF. Valencia CF will welcome FC Barcelona on Saturday 16th of December at 9 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on Matchday 17 of LaLiga EA Sports.
