Former Valencia CF coach Jack Greenwell enters English National Football Museum Hall of Fame
The coach from 1933-1935 won a Copa Regional and took the club to their first Copa final
John Richard 'Jack' Greenwell, a British footballer and coach who managed Valencia CF for two seasons (from 1933-1935), has been inducted into the English National Football Museum Hall of Fame, in Manchester.
He took the club to their first Copa final in the 1933/34 season, and also won the Copa Regional.
Valencia CF ambassador, Vicente Rodríguez, remembered his legacy upon learning of the news.
“It is a pride for me to represent Valencia CF in remembering Jack Greenwell, who left a great mark on our club. He led Valencia CF during two brilliant seasons in the 1930s. We are very pleased that he is part of the National Football Museum Hall of Fame, and he will always be in our memory.”
Greenwell has been chosen to enter the Hall of Fame for his pioneering achievements in the field of football, including being one of the first English coaches to coach abroad, becoming one of the most successful coaches in English history and leaving a great legacy in Spain and South America (he was the first non-South American coach to win the Copa América).
“There is no doubt that Greenwell played a fundamental role in the globalisation of the game, and in shaping football as we know it today,” notes the National Football Museum.
The Hall of Fame aims to highlight the achievements of those who have made a significant contribution to English football. Additionally, it recognises the careers of those whose impact goes beyond the field of play.
