Jaume Masià: “I am very grateful, as a citizen, for all the help received”
The Valencian Moto2 rider tells, in L'Informatiu of VCF Radio, his experience after the DANA that has affected Algemesí
Several Valencian towns have been severely affected by the terrible DANA that occurred on October 29th. One of those municipalities hit by the flood has been Algemesí, where the Moto2 rider Jaume Masià is from. The Preicanos Racing Team rider tells, in L'Informatiu of VCF Radio, his experience during this historic catastrophe.
Situation in Algemesí
“Now we are much better than when I arrived, but the whole downtown area is still affected. A lot of work has been done, many volunteers have come from outside. I am very grateful as a citizen for all the help received. When I arrived Monday night, I had a lot of work to do at home because my garage, my father's work tools, all my stuff, the bikes... it was a monumental mess. My whole sporting career was affected and my father's working career, too. Everything up in the air. Algemesí has been one of the most affected towns and it is true that many people have come from outside and without them it would not have been possible all the reconstruction that has been done this week”.
Moment of the DANA
“I found out everything while I was far away, it was complicated to deal with. My mother was alone at home and it was complicated to have to live it so far away and then the first impact of seeing everything was a big shock. Seeing your houses, your streets, in that way is very complicated to assimilate. I arrived by plane, it was quite late at night and on the way from the airport to my house by the river it was incredible and the entire runway of Silla cannot be described in words, it was all deserted and with wrecked cars”.
Solidarity
“I have helped as much as I could, it has not been easy because I still have one more race to finish the championship and I have to be professional. It is difficult to separate your heart between your job and your land. I have helped where I could, in the warehouse of a friend, garages ... and I repeat that I am eternally grateful to all the people I have met”.
Grand Prix of the Comunitat Valenciana
“It was the right thing not to run in Valencia. Not even a minute of effort should have been spent in considering running or restructuring the entrance to the circuit. It was not the right thing to do. There are people who need much more help than in a Grand Prix. We must not forget that many people have passed away and many family members have lost their loved ones. It's a sign of respect and empathy for those people”.
Última carrera de la temporada
“Dorna y MotoGP han hecho lo correcto. Se recaudará mucho dinero y espero que vaya, realmente, para las familias afectadas. Que se cercioren de que el destino sea ese”.
Last race of the season
“Dorna and MotoGP have done the right thing. A lot of money will be raised and I hope it will really go to the families affected. Let them make sure that's the destination.”
