MATCH REPORT | Valencia CF win over UD Almería (2-1)
Hugo Duro and Yaremchuk score in a home victory
Strikes from forwards Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk earned Valencia CF a 2-2 win against UD Almería on LaLiga Matchday 23, returning them to winning ways and making it five triumphs in the last six games in the competition.
The first chance of the game went to UD Almería, after Valencia CF had come out strong, aggressive and insistent with several approaches and a fall by Yaremchuk in the area. The Andalusian side almost took the lead on the counter, when Gonzalo Melero was put through one-on-one with Giorgi Mamardashvili, but he sent the ball over the crossbar.
The warning from the visitors would highlight the need to not let up, and the intensity led to the opening goal. Hugo Duro took advantage of an assist from Diego López from the right wing, converting to score his latest goal of a prolific season.
The team would not settle, however, and in the 23rd minute Yaremchuk headed in a great cross from the left from Pepelu.
2-0 down, Almería would try to close the gap off a set-piece half an hour into the game, but it did not go onto the scoreboard due to a handball.
In the second half, the away team pulled one back through Sergio Arribas at the back post, making it 2-1.
On the hour, Diego López was felled in the opposition area after receiving an elbow in the face from a defender. The referee whistled for a penalty, but Pepelu's spot kick came back off the post.
Valencia CF held on for another victory, and will look to continue the good dynamic next Saturday, on Matchday 24 against UD Las Palmas.
